C-C 40 Cruising Yacht 0002

C-C 40 Cruising Yacht -  is meant to be a good wholesome motor sailer of reasonably light displacement and therefore easily driven both under power or sail.

She is available with various rigs and the accommodation layout can be changed to suite the need. Her construction is cedar strip plank but she could be of any core and F/G composite or C-C Alloy Frame and panel or ply skin. (C-C KIT) This design is also available as a mini-keel with a centreboard through it or as a fin keel without the board. She would be a very easy and quick boat to build and would not cost the earth for materials.

For her size she is a very roomy boat with bunks for up to six crew, full headroom throughout the boat, a great galley and dinette. In fact space round everything in the boat. Dual steering positions, a comfortable wheelhouse and the huge flat foredeck make this a great single hander’s home.

Dimensions  :-

LOA 40’   (12.1m)

Beam  11’ 9”   (3.6m)

Draft Hull (Board & Rudders Raised)  1’  (300mm)

Board Down 7’ 6”   (2.3m)

C-C 40 Cruising Yacht 0003

Above is a Motor Sailer version with short masts and gaff rig :-

This was necessitated by the need to navigate under a low bridge on the way to and from the sea. With to-days lightweight spars and sail making technology and the fact that it will live in a windy part of the world, the combination will be acceptable.

This yacht was first designed for an adventurer who had already sailed to many intriguing ports of the world but was unfortunate enough to have lost his previous yacht on the fringing reef of a coral atoll in mid Pacific.

So first and foremost she had to be home and heaven for her crew and able to sail in comfort and at speed to wherever the whim and wind might take them. This also meant shallow waters. She had to able to be beached to dry out at low tide and SIT UPRIGHT. That meant a centreboard through a mini-keel and two rudders on skegs with base plates to hold her vertical. This concept could best be achieved if the boat was kept light, so she is light, fast and shoal draft.

Now to build the most boat for the least money we chose “cedar strip plank” and a raised deck faired into the topsides and no actual deck cabin, just a stylish solid dodger over the cockpit. This configuration made for mountains of space below decks. In fact she has the room below of a much bigger boat and that's great if you wish to live aboard.

This boat has a spacious covered cockpit about Three and One half metres long. Aft of the companionway there are Two large double cabins with full headroom, under the cockpit is the engine room to port is the toilet, shower and vanity area, opposite a lounge or navigation bay, forward is the largest galley area you are likely to ever see outside of a cruise ship. There’s room for a fridge/freezer, stove with oven, grill, knobes and needles, a great double bowl sink and oodles of bench space.

A bench seat and comfortable dinette forward of this galley and a workshop in the bows of the boat complete the storey, except to say there is generous headroom throughout and from gunwale to gunwale, which gives a wonderful feeling of space, when below.

The rig is a cutter of conservative dimensions and no special gimmicks but I’m sure it will serve the boat well. The first boat had two small inboard diesels driving through sail drives (they got lost somewhere in the aft cabins) that made manoeuvring a piece of cake. She doesn’t need much power any small diesel would do the job.

As it turned out, all of the features of this boat are in keeping with a line of boats that have evolved over the last Ten or Twelve years (A little more now.) and range in size from the C-C 26 a maxi Trailer Sailer, to the C-C 31, 34, 36, 37, 41 and the C-C 45. (They’re over 60ft. 18.5m LOA now.)

I am at present working on a steel and alloy C-C 46 in the same style but heavier displacement and shortly at least one or two of the smaller versions will be modified and included in the Compu-Craft Kit Boat range. (All done.)

A modern - JUNK RIG - is one of several rig options that are available for this design.

The hull is constructed of steel plate,  the decks and cabin are of aluminium. This is a spacious boat that would be very easy to live with. Two double cabins amidships  a huge saloon cabin and acres of covered aft deck, IT IS CRYING OUT for a tropical haven to hide in, for months on end.
